BAU and The Hub Pantry Use

This document provides a summary of best practice in relation to the use of the pantry in the BAU and The Hub. The summary has been created to support staff during the Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department Redevelopment transition and early post-move period, and has been endorsed by the SHED Leadership Team.

Overview

The aim of this QRG is to outline the process for use of the pantry located in the BAU and The Hub, as well as the associated safety features.

Applicability

This QRG relates to all staff working in The BAU and The Hub.

Responsibility

It is the responsibility of the Nurse Unit Managers, Directors and Deputy Directors of the Emergency Department, and the Emergency Department line Managers to ensure the relevant SHED staff are familiar with this QRG, that it is implemented according to the guidelines as outlined within, and that there is compliance by all staff members.

Guideline/Process Details

There is a pantry located in the BAU and The Hub to assist in providing food and drinks for patients in these areas.

The BAU and The Hub pantry share the same design (Appendix 1); each contains:

A small fridge Cup dispenser Paper towel dispenser
Tap with hot and cold water Tea and coffee Cordial
Spoons and sugar    
  • Each pantry has a roller door which is electronically operated and the controls are located in the work station (Appendix 2).
  • The ANUM/Nurse in Charge for this area will be responsible for the key to operate the roller door.
  • The roller door of the BAU pantry will remain closed and only be opened and used by the staff working in the area.
  • The roller door of The Hub pantry will remain open if deemed appropriate by the staff working in the area.
  • The pantry area should be stocked and PSAs notified if restocking is required.

Safety

  • A boiling* water isolation switch (Appendix 3) is located in the work station and should be engaged if the shut off of hot water is required for safety.
    • *Note water is set at 62 degrees celsius for safety.
  • The Hub roller door can be closed remotely from the work station using the control key and should be closed if there are any safety concerns.
