Subject: SHED Expansion – New Resuscitation Area
Clinical operations will commence tomorrow in the new Resuscitation Area of Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department, marking another significant milestone in the SHED expansion project.
The new resuscitation area has been designed to consider the current pandemic with the installation of two negative flow rooms and a Class-N negative pressure room with a direct external ambulance entry point.
Since practical completion and handover of this space in June of this year, staff in SHED and the broader project teams have undertaken a significant amount of work to ensure the clinical readiness of this space.
A thorough transitioning and commissioning period, including scenario testing and extensive training and orientation, has been undertaken, and I thank the many hundreds of staff for their participation at this incredibly busy time.
While the need to re-install the pendants resulted in some minor delays, it highlighted the value of our comprehensive processes that will ensure we provide safe, quality care to our critically unwell patients.
The new Resuscitation Area is part of Stage 3 of the SHED expansion, alongside the Ground Floor X-Ray Room which opened in August, and the Behavioural Assessment Unit for which a clinical commencement date is yet to be determined.
